Criminal mastermind in GTA5 Online

The Criminal Mastermind (hereinafter CM) is an in-game achievement that rewards you with a whopping $10,000,000 in-game dollars.

Additionally: The "All in Order" and "Loyalty" achievements, which grant an extra $2,000,000 combined, stack with the "Criminal Mastermind" achievement. As a result, completing them will earn you a total of $12,000,000 in-game dollars. The requirements for these two achievements are the same as for "Criminal Mastermind."

These achievements were added in patch 1.21, which included the long-awaited Heists. A total of 5 heists were added, and it's currently unknown if new ones will appear. Each heist includes several setup missions, which are quite similar to preparations in single-player mode—finding a certain number of vehicles, eliminating enemies, or finding documents needed for the heist itself.

The missions require high concentration, coordination with your teammates, and certain knowledge and skills. I highly recommend completing each heist at least once before attempting the achievements. This is not only to know the location of items/data and so on, but also to unlock two bulletproof vehicles that are essential for the achievement: the Kuruma and the Insurgent.

Challenge Rules

Complete all Heists and their setups in order:
This means you need to complete all heists in the following sequence: The Fleeca Job, Prison Break, Humane Labs Raid, Series A Funding, The Pacific Standard Job.

Complete all heists and setups with the same team:
You must complete all heists with the exact same team from start to finish.

Complete all heists and setups on hard difficulty:
Every setup mission and heist must be played on hard difficulty, including the very first mission where you and Lester go scouting the bank.

Complete all heists and setups without deaths:
If any player in the team dies during the CM attempt, all players will receive a message above the minimap stating: "CM failed." So, no one must die.

The Fleeca Job Dilemma

The Fleeca Job is for two players, but subsequent heists are for four.
The team should split into two pairs to complete The Fleeca Job, otherwise, the CM will not count for everyone.

Illustrative example:
4 friends A, B, C, D want to get CM.
Friends A and B complete The Fleeca Job together.
Friends C and D complete The Fleeca Job together.
After this, all four friends A, B, C, D complete Prison Break.

To simultaneously get the Loyalty achievement, it is necessary for players who already have CM to also complete Fleeca.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. If I fail a mission, for example, accidentally destroy the Valkyrie helicopter needed for the task, then naturally we will fail the mission. Will I have to start all over again from Fleeca?
A. No. Failing a mission does not mean failing CM. However, if a player dies, then yes, it fails.

Q. Is this $10,000,000 divided among all players, or how does it work?
A. It's $10,000,000 for each player.

Q. Can I get $10,000,000 again if I replay CM?
A. No, this is an in-game achievement that can only be completed once per character.

Q. Is there any way to avoid restarting the achievement if someone dies?
A. There is one, but it's too risky and not worth it. If someone dies, the others should quickly disconnect their consoles from the network. This will prevent the game from saving, giving you another chance. However, you risk damaging your console. So I don't recommend doing this.

Q. My CM, Loyalty, and All in Order achievements are bugged! At some point, one of us disconnects due to connection issues, and an achievement resets to 0/26 and doesn't count further! Do I need to restart?
A. No. If this happens, say, in Humane Labs, it's better for your team to continue playing through to Pacific Standard. Here's why: If someone disconnects, the rest of the team is simply obligated to get the achievement. It would be foolish to start all over again because of one person.
Then, all of you will need to restart the challenge from The Fleeca Job (with the same people you did it with). The challenge won't reset at Fleeca but will continue to count. Then you'll reunite for Prison Break and continue playing. The challenge will continue to count normally after reaching the 25/26 counter. After that, complete the final heist and receive your reward and money.
Note: Even if you reach 26/26 before starting the final heist, you'll still have to finish it. The game only registers it when the results are being tallied.

Q. My team and I decided to take a break and continue/finish tomorrow. Can I play heists with other people during this time?
A. NO! If you do that, your challenge will reset, and you'll have to start all over again. However, if you play heists with people who weren't on your team, only your challenge will be affected.
Your team will be fine, and they can continue the challenge with you, even if yours reset.

Q. Do I ABSOLUTELY have to play on hard difficulty? Some missions are very difficult, and I'd prefer an easier setting.
A. Yes, ABSOLUTELY! If you complete the setups and heists on any other difficulty, the challenge will not count.
On the other hand, difficulty doesn't affect enemy AI, only their quantity and the team's lives.

Tips and Tricks

Now I'll give you some tips that you should take into account before starting the challenge.

Rank 120 is desirable, 135 is even better:
It's important to be level 120 to use the minigun.
It's even better to be 135, because at that level you can carry the maximum number of heavy body armor vests — 10.
Although you can start the challenge at a lower level, but only if you know what to do, always wear body armor and a bulletproof helmet, perform the simplest duties, and remember to use cover.

Microphone:
It's clear here, don't even attempt the challenge with random people without communication.

Heavy Utility Vest:
It can be bought at any clothing store. It guarantees increased protection during heists. And I don't think it will help you in PvP.

Bulletproof Helmet:
Also bought at any clothing store. Also guarantees increased bullet resistance, and if you wear both armor and a helmet, you can even survive a misplaced throw of your own grenade!

Saved Outfits:
After purchasing the items described above, go home, enter your wardrobe, and save this "outfit."

Snacks/Armor
In Free Roam, you can go into a store and buy/steal snacks.
There are 4 types of snacks that replenish your health when consumed.
P's and Q's — maximum 30
EgoChaser – maximum 15.
Meteorite – maximum 5
eCola – maximum 10.

And at Ammu-Nation, you can buy extra body armor.
The higher your level, the more body armor you can carry. Reminder, at level 135, you can carry as many as 10 body armor vests.

To eat in a tough situation or put on fresh armor instead of damaged one, press the M (English) key — Inventory — Snacks/Body Armor and act accordingly 🙂

Personal Kuruma and/or Insurgent

These cars are very useful for completing most combat-heavy missions. That's why it's necessary for at least one player to have these vehicles.

However, I don't recommend the Kuruma. It's immune to bullets, but just one explosion will kill everyone inside. The Insurgent, on the other hand, can withstand 4-5 explosions, similar to a tank.
Before starting a mission, in the outfit selection menu, you can also choose your vehicle if you have many.

Do Not Use Explosives!

It's simple: an inaccurately thrown grenade can cause a chain reaction if there are canisters, barrels, or tanks nearby, killing one of your teammates.

Assign Pilots and Ground Team in Advance

Even with all precautions, there will always be someone on your team who isn't good at flying planes/helicopters and is therefore an easy target for the enemy. Your team must clearly know their responsibilities before starting the mission, and everyone should know their role.

Infinite Cop Glitch

This is a rather old glitch, but nonetheless. If two or more players are in the same car, the cops will not stop chasing you. If this happens, find a safe place, get out of the car, and wait until the minimap stops flashing. After that, get back in the car; the cops will still be in search mode.

MONITOR CHALLENGE PROGRESS!

It's important to constantly check your progress, especially when you start Prison Break.
Pause the game — Stats — Awards — Heists. And check CM. If it's 3/26, everything is fine. If it reset, start again from Fleeca.

COMPLETE ANY HEIST SETUP BEFORE STARTING!

There's a nasty glitch where the CM progress resets after the team starts Prison Break.
To avoid this, all four players must complete any one heist setup together, thereby "informing" the game that the team is the same when attempting the challenge. You only need to complete any heist setup, not an entire heist.
